Gift of Literacy is a program that encourages a love of reading among young children.
Through the support of the Mt. Bachelor Rotary Club, the Redmond Rotary Club, the Sunriver Rotary Club, the Greater Bend Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Bend in partnership with the Bend-La Pine School District, the Redmond School District and the Deschutes Public Library first-graders six participate in an enriching six-month literacy program.

- Exposing them to a variety of books: Each student reads up to eight carefully selected titles throughout the year.
- Empowering them with a choice: Each student chooses his or her favorite title and receives a hardbound copy of the book at the annual celebration.
- Reinforcing the importance and enjoyment of reading.
